8 m Lighting Poles: Ranges, Parameters, Price

All six of our lighting pole ranges are available at 8 m, from the park PLO to the road DMO. Their parameters and prices are set side by side below, so they are easy to compare.

8 m Lighting Poles: Ranges, Parameters, Price

Which ranges are available at 8 m

  • PLO-8: a light-duty multi-sided park pole, with nothing taller in this range;
  • PMO-8: a multi-sided park pole;
  • PKO-8: a conical park pole of round section;
  • UMO-8: a multi-sided street pole;
  • UKO-8: a conical street pole;
  • DMO-8: a multi-sided road pole, also suitable for SIP cable. Supplied with a 500 × 120 mm inspection hatch.

At 8 m, all six ranges are available together.

Mass is from actual production data. The full mass table for all heights 3–12 m is in Lighting Pole Height and Mass: Table by Range.

Where 8 m poles are used

An 8 m pole fits large park areas (PLO, PMO, PKO), local streets and apartment-block courtyards (UMO, UKO), and roads with intermediate SIP cable runs (DMO). To pick the range and height for a particular site, see How to Choose the Height of a Lighting Pole.

Foundation and anchor cage

An 8 m pole is fixed to its foundation through a flange and an anchor cage. The size of the cage depends on the range, the pole’s mass and the soil on site. Details are in FPO, FPM, FKM Anchor Cages and Lighting Pole Foundations.

Price of an 8 m pole

Price depends mainly on the range. Park poles (PLO, PMO, PKO) cost UAH 3,800 to 17,000 per unit including VAT, street poles (UMO, UKO) UAH 5,100 to 27,500, and the road range DMO UAH 25,000 to 39,000. These are ranges across all heights of each series, indicative, as of September 2026. The exact price for an 8 m pole comes from a calculation. What goes into it is covered in How Much Does a Lighting Pole Cost; general prices are on the Lighting Pole Prices page.

Brackets and crossarms are not included in the pole price: they have a separate price list (see Brackets, crossarms and caps).

How much equipment area 8 m poles can carry

Poles of the same height withstand wind differently, so the permitted windage area of luminaires depends on the range. The table gives the values at 500 Pa from the “Scope of application” sections on the range pages. Park poles have a 3 mm wall, street and road poles 4 mm. The mean thickness of the ISO 1461 zinc coating is at least 55 µm for a 3 mm wall and at least 70 µm for 4 mm.

Permitted total area of luminaires, m², at a wind pressure of 500 Pa (terrain type III, Caer = 1). A dash means there is no permitted area. Values for 400–600 Pa are on the pages for UMO and UKO, PMO, PKO and PLO and DMO.

Worked example: which luminaire fits an 8 m pole

Take a hypothetical luminaire: 12 kg, windage area 0.45 m² (a real calculation uses the values from the luminaire manufacturer’s datasheet), wind pressure 500 Pa. Mass comes first: 12 kg ≤ 50 kg on the axis and ≤ 15 kg per arm. Then the area is checked against the table:

  • on the axis: PLO-8 (0.232 m²) does not pass; PKO-8 (0.580 m²) passes with a margin of 0.58 − 0.45 = 0.13 m²; UKO-8 (0.860 m²) with a margin of 0.41 m²;
  • on a 1-arm bracket of 1.5 m: PKO-8 (0.386 m²) does not pass; UKO-8 (0.636 m²) passes with a margin of 0.636 − 0.45 = 0.186 m²; PMO-8 (0.942 m²) passes.

On the axis, even the conical park PKO-8 is enough. With a 1.5 m bracket the PKO-8 no longer fits, but the PMO-8 (85 kg), UKO-8 (98 kg) and UMO-8 (109 kg) do, and by the table so does the DMO-8, though with a 2 m bracket. The wind pressure for the site comes from a calculation; W0 from the wind region table is only a starting point.

Worked example: how many 8 m poles a 300 m street needs

Conditions: a carriageway 12 m wide, a staggered two-sided layout, UMO-8 poles (109 kg). The calculation follows the rules in Distance Between Street Lighting Poles. The number of poles on one side is the section length ÷ spacing, rounded up; the end poles of the section are not counted:

  • minimum height: 12 ÷ 1.5 = 8 m, so an 8 m pole fits with no margin;
  • spacing of 3–4 heights: 8 × 3 = 24 m and 8 × 4 = 32 m;
  • on one side: 300 ÷ 32 ≈ 9.4, so 10; 300 ÷ 24 = 12.5, so 13;
  • on both sides: 20 to 26 poles;
  • mass of the batch: 20 × 109 = 2,180 kg and 26 × 109 = 2,834 kg.

If you need more margin in strip width, look at 10 m poles. This is only an estimate made ahead of the lighting calculation: intersections and crossings need extra poles.

What to clarify before ordering an 8 m pole

  • the range: park, street, or road with SIP (DMO);
  • luminaire mass, quantity and windage area from the datasheet, plus the number of arms and the bracket reach;
  • the height of the luminaire itself, not just of the shaft;
  • the wind pressure at the site, confirmed by a calculation;
  • fixing: a flange on 4 M24 anchors and the FPO-1000-1 anchor cage (for the PLO-8 it is M20 and FPO-800-1, for the DMO-8 FPO-1500-2), see Foundation Anchor Cages;
  • how many poles are needed and where the intersections and crossings are.

The data can be sent in any form; see How to Order Poles and Masts.

Selecting a pole by luminaire area and mass

You do not have to look up the permissible luminaire area and mass for a pole of this height in the tables by hand: the pole selection calculator by luminaire area and mass compares your luminaires with the catalogue data and shows which poles fit by height, wind region and mounting scheme.

8 m lighting poles: frequently asked questions

How much does an 8 m lighting pole weigh?

By range: PLO-8 is 67 kg, PMO-8 85 kg, PKO-8 76 kg, UMO-8 109 kg, UKO-8 98 kg and DMO-8 148.2 kg.

Why do all six ranges meet at 8 m?

The light-duty PLO stops at 8 m, while the road DMO is already made from 7 m, so the height ranges of all six overlap at this point.

Which range should I take for a street with 8 m poles?

For local streets and apartment-block courtyards, UMO-8 or UKO-8. If SIP cable has to be hung on the poles, take the road DMO-8.

How much does an 8 m lighting pole cost?

From UAH 3,800 to 39,000 per unit including VAT, depending on the range. The exact figure comes from a calculation for the chosen range and fit-out. Brackets and crossarms are not part of this price; they are priced separately.

What should I include in a calculation request?

The range or application, the number of poles, the wind region and the fit-out you want. Anything you do not know can stay blank, and we will clarify it.

Will an 8 m pole work for a carriageway 12 m wide?

It depends on the layout. One-sided: no, the height must be at least 12 m, see 12 m poles. Staggered two-sided: 12 ÷ 1.5 = 8 m, so an 8 m pole fits, but with no margin. Opposite two-sided: 12 ÷ 2 = 6 m, and there is a margin. The final answer comes from a lighting calculation.

How high will the luminaire sit on an 8 m pole?

On the axis, at 8 m. On a bracket with a 1.5 m reach, at 9 m. On the DMO-8 with a 2 m bracket, at 10 m (the pole height with bracket, per the catalogue). A lighting calculation uses the luminaire height.
