Wind turbine masts
We design and fabricate poles for wind turbines rated from 3 to 50 kW. Each pole is calculated for a specific turbine and site, made of steel and hot-dip galvanised.

What we make
The customer chooses the height, and we calculate the structure for the turbine model and the wind region.
Poles 9–24 m
A free-standing multi-sided pole of varying section on a flange, without guy wires.
Poles up to 30 m
Under the customer’s technical brief the height can reach 30 m.
For turbines of 3–50 kW
The head with a mounting flange is made to the turbine manufacturer’s drawing.
Advantages of our poles
Calculated for the turbine
Rotor loads come from the manufacturer’s data, wind and ice from DBN V.1.2-2.
Hot-dip galvanising
Sections are galvanised to DSTU EN ISO 1461:2024.
Embedded part and anchors
We make the embedded foundation part with anchor bolts to the foundation drawing.
Ladder and platform
A ladder and a maintenance platform are part of the supply.
Foundation loads
We provide the foundation loads, and by separate agreement we can design the foundation itself.
KM and KMD drawings
We prepare the drawings ourselves, and erection is done by a partner construction company.
Hot-dip galvanised sections
to DSTU EN ISO 1461:2024
Wind turbine poles: specifications and supply
Height and rating
Height is measured from the base to the turbine’s mounting flange. It is usually from 9 to 24 m, and under the technical brief it can be 30 m.
The customer chooses it from the site: buildings and trees nearby slow the wind near the ground, and the taller they are, the higher the turbine has to go.
There is no standard range: each pole is calculated for a specific turbine model and a specific installation point.
Design
We make multi-sided steel poles: free-standing, of varying section, without guy wires.
- a pole of one or more sections, the design sets the type of joints
- a head with a mounting flange for the turbine
- a ladder and a maintenance platform
- an embedded foundation part with anchor bolts, and a bottom flange
What is included in the supply
The pole, the embedded foundation part with anchor bolts, a ladder and a maintenance platform. The turbine itself is not part of our supply.
Loads and calculation
The pole carries the weight of the nacelle with the rotor, the axial force on the rotor, wind on the pole, ice and its own weight. The nacelle mass and the axial force come from the turbine manufacturer, separately for operation and for extreme wind.
Wind and ice are taken under DBN V.1.2-2:2006 for the construction region, members and joints are checked under DBN V.2.6-198:2014, and calculations are run in SCAD Office.
We look separately at the natural frequencies of the pole: they must not coincide with the rotor speed or the blade passing frequency. Welds and flange joints are checked for fatigue.
Foundation
A foundation is designed from the loads on it, and we provide these loads: the moment, the shear and the vertical force at the level of the embedded part.
By separate agreement we can also design the foundation. This is a separate service with separate payment, and it needs a report of the geotechnical survey of the site. Without it a foundation is not designed.
Fabrication and galvanising
We make the pole from S245, S255, S345 or 09G2S steel, and the KMD gives the grade of each part. The pole is made in sections, the section joints are flanged or slip joints. Welds are checked visually and, where the design requires, by ultrasound.
After welding, the sections are hot-dip galvanised to DSTU EN ISO 1461:2024. The length and size of a section are agreed in advance with the dimensions of the galvanising bath.
What to send for a calculation
- the model and rating of the turbine, rotor diameter, the manufacturer’s datasheet or drawing
- the mass of the nacelle with the rotor and the axial force on the rotor in operation and in extreme wind
- the mounting dimensions of the head: flange diameter, bolt circle and number of bolts
- the height needed and the number of poles
- the town or the coordinates of the site
- the terrain around: open, built-up or wooded
- a geotechnical survey report if a foundation design is needed
A calculation can begin once the turbine specification and the construction region are known.
Erection
A licensed partner construction company erects the pole to a work execution project, and the lift of the nacelle with its rotor is agreed in that same project. Earthing and lightning protection of the pole are the customer’s task under the design.

Questions about wind turbine poles
What is included in the supply?
The pole, the embedded foundation part, a ladder and a maintenance platform. We do not supply the turbine.
Do you design the foundation?
We provide the foundation loads. For a separate fee we can also design the foundation itself: this needs a geotechnical survey report of the site.
For turbines of what rating do you make poles?
From 3 to 50 kW. We calculate the pole for a specific turbine model.
How tall can a wind turbine pole be?
Usually from 9 to 24 m, and under the customer’s technical brief it can be 30 m. The height is measured to the turbine’s mounting flange and is set by the customer.
Are there standard poles for wind turbines?
No. We design each pole for a specific turbine and installation point, because the loads depend on both the turbine and the wind region.
What is needed to calculate a pole?
The technical data of the turbine and the construction region. The full list is in the section “What to send for a calculation”.
Who erects the pole?
A licensed partner construction company. The POLYGONAL company calculates, fabricates and galvanises the pole and prepares the drawings.
Need a pole for a wind turbine?
Send the turbine model and the installation site. We will calculate the pole and give you the price and lead time.
