12 m Lighting Poles: Ranges, Parameters, Price
12 m is the tallest pole in our lighting range; above that you are into floodlight masts. Only the heaviest ranges remain at this height: the multi-sided street UMO, the conical street UKO and the road DMO.

Which ranges are available at 12 m
- UMO-12: multi-sided street pole; the range stops at this height;
- UKO-12: conical street pole, also the top of its range;
- DMO-12: multi-sided road pole that can also carry SIP cable. This is the maximum height for it too. Supplied with a 500 × 120 mm inspection hatch.
The park ranges PLO, PMO and PKO stop at 8–10 m, so there is no park pole at 12 m. For anything taller than 12 m, look at floodlight masts.
12 m pole parameters by range
| Range | Type | Mass at 12 m, kg | Model |
|---|---|---|---|
| UMO | Multi-sided | 159 | UMO-12 |
| UKO | Conical | 170 | UKO-12 |
| DMO | Multi-sided (for SIP) | 228.8 | DMO-12 |
Mass is from actual production data. The full mass table for all heights 3–12 m is in Lighting Pole Height and Mass: Table by Range.
Where 12 m poles are used
12 m is a typical height for highways and main roads. The road DMO-12 also suits SIP cable, while the street UMO-12 and UKO-12 go on wide streets and avenues, where the poles need a longer spacing without dropping below the illuminance norm. To choose height and spacing for your own site, see How to Choose the Height of a Lighting Pole and Distance Between Street Lighting Poles.
Foundation and anchor cage
12 m poles are the heaviest in their ranges, and the foundation has to match: a larger anchor cage diameter, deeper embedment, and a calculation for the wind region and the soil on site. Details are in Foundation Anchor Cages FPO, FPM, FKM and Lighting Pole Foundations.
Price of a 12 m pole
Street poles (UMO, UKO) cost UAH 5,100 to 27,500 per unit including VAT; the road DMO costs UAH 25,000 to 39,000. These are indicative price bands covering every height in a series, as of September 2026. A 12 m pole is the tallest in its range, so its price usually sits closer to the upper end. The exact figure comes from a calculation. More in How Much Does a Lighting Pole Cost or on the Lighting Pole Prices page.
Brackets and crossarms are not included in the pole price: they have a separate price list (see Brackets, crossarms and caps).
12 m pole dimensions: diameters, hatch, flange
Besides mass, a project needs the fixing dimensions: they determine the anchor cage and where the hatch sits. The figures come from the dimension tables on the pages for UMO and UKO and DMO.
| Range | Top / bottom Ø, mm | Hatch, mm | Hatch from base, mm | Flange, mm / anchors | Base moment M, kN·m |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UMO-12 | 60 / 206 | 500 × 90 | 600 | 220 / 4 × M24 | 13.12 |
| UKO-12 | 60 / 204 | 500 × 90 | 600 | 220 / 4 × M24 | 13.84 |
| DMO-12 | 110 / 238 | 500 × 120 | 500 | 300 / 4 × M27 | 17.68 |
Hatch is height × width; “hatch from base” is the distance from the hatch to the base of the pole; flange is the distance between hole axes; M is the bending moment at the base. The DMO-12 hatch is 500 × 120 mm and is part of the standard supply. An anchor cage for a UMO-12 or UKO-12 does not fit a DMO-12: the flanges differ, see Foundation Anchor Cages FPO, FPM, FKM.
How much windage area 12 m poles allow
A pole is designed for the mass of the luminaire and for wind. The larger the windage area of the equipment, the greater the moment at the base. In the UMO (from 6 m up) and DMO ranges the permitted area shrinks as height grows: on a UMO-12 with a 1.5 m bracket at 400 Pa it is 0.665 m², on a UMO-10 it is 1.205 m². Below are the values by range for luminaires on a bracket (conditions: Caer = 1, terrain type III):
| Range and luminaire position | 400 Pa, m² | 450 Pa, m² | 500 Pa, m² | 550 Pa, m² | 600 Pa, m² |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UMO-12, 1-arm bracket 1.5 m, up to 15 kg | 0.665 | 0.492 | 0.355 | 0.244 | 0.153 |
| UMO-12, 2-arm 2×1.5 m, up to 15 kg per arm | 0.255 | 0.172 | 0.106 | 0.054 | 0.01 |
| UKO-12, 1-arm bracket 1.5 m, up to 15 kg | 0.994 | 0.805 | 0.655 | 0.533 | 0.432 |
| UKO-12, 2-arm 2×1.5 m, up to 15 kg per arm | 0.414 | 0.324 | 0.252 | 0.194 | 0.146 |
| DMO-12, 1-arm bracket 2 m, up to 15 kg | 0.18 | — | — | — | — |
| DMO-12, 2-arm 2×2 m, up to 15 kg per arm | 0.01 | — | — | — | — |
Permitted total area of lighting fittings; a dash means the range table gives no permitted area at that pressure, i.e. that pole configuration is not permitted at that pressure. For an intermediate pressure, take the nearest higher column. The full tables, including a luminaire on the axis, are on the range pages.
Worked example: will a 12 m pole carry the luminaires
Take a luminaire of 14 kg with a windage area of 0.2 m² (values from the luminaire’s datasheet) on a 1-arm bracket and go through the tables:
- mass: 14 kg against a limit of 15 kg per arm, so it fits;
- UMO-12: at 550 Pa the permitted area is 0.244 m² against 0.2 m² needed, so it passes; at 600 Pa only 0.153 m² is permitted and it no longer does;
- DMO-12 (2 m bracket): even at 400 Pa only 0.18 m² is permitted, so it fails;
- two such luminaires on a 2-arm bracket add up to 2 × 0.2 = 0.4 m². The UKO-12 passes only at 400 Pa (0.414 m²); the UMO-12 fails at every pressure in the table, with 0.255 m² at best.
Always check the luminaire against the table for the exact range and height you are ordering: the DMO-12 is limited to much less than the UMO-12 or UKO-12.
12 m or 10 m: how many poles per kilometre of road
Wide streets and roads (including category A under DBN V.2.5-28:2018) usually get 10–12 m poles. This is a guideline from project practice, not a requirement of the standard. Let us compare the two heights on a 1 km stretch with poles on one side. We take the spacing as 3–4 mounting heights (the rule from Distance Between Street Lighting Poles) and the count as 1,000 ÷ spacing, rounded up; the end poles of the stretch are not counted.
| Parameter | 10 m pole | 12 m pole |
|---|---|---|
| Pole spacing, m | 30–40 | 36–48 |
| Poles per km, one side | 25–34 | 21–28 |
| Mass of UMO poles per km, kg | 3,350–4,556 | 3,339–4,452 |
| Widest lit strip (approx.): one-sided / staggered / opposite, m | 10 / 15 / 20 | 12 / 18 / 24 |
| UMO height with a 1.5 m bracket, m | 11 | 13 |
Calculation: 1,000 ÷ 40 = 25 and 1,000 ÷ 30 ≈ 33.3, i.e. 34; 1,000 ÷ 48 ≈ 20.8, i.e. 21, and 1,000 ÷ 36 ≈ 27.8, i.e. 28. Mass is the number of poles × 134 kg (UMO-10) or × 159 kg (UMO-12). For the estimate, the mounting height is taken equal to the pole height, as in the article on spacing. A 12 m height saves 4–6 poles and foundations per kilometre at almost the same mass of steel, but it needs a more powerful luminaire, and the foundation is checked against the base moment; the lighting calculation has the final say.
Checklist before ordering a 12 m pole
- layout and strip width: poles on one side light a strip up to 12 m wide, staggered poles up to 18 m, opposite poles up to 24 m. A 12 m pole is overkill for a 7 m carriageway with one-sided placement (7–8 m is enough); for a road wider than 24 m or a large interchange, consider floodlight masts;
- range: UMO or UKO for lighting alone, DMO-12 if the pole also carries SIP (cable up to 4×35, hung at up to 7 m, spacing up to 40 m rather than 48 m);
- luminaire: its datasheet mass (up to 15 kg per arm) and windage area must fit the range table;
- height including the bracket: 13 m for UMO-12 and UKO-12 (1.5 m bracket), 14 m for DMO-12 (2 m bracket). Check it against overhead wires and tree crowns, see Power Line Protection Zone;
- wind region: W0 is 0.37 kPa in Kyiv and 0.52 kPa in Lviv, so a pole checked for one city has to be recalculated for another. Input data is in the W0 table;
- galvanising: on a 4 mm wall the mean coating thickness must be at least 70 µm (DSTU EN ISO 1461:2024), see Zinc Coating Thickness;
- delivery and erection: a 12 m shaft comes in one section, so you need transport for long loads and a crane. Erection is done by a specialised organisation, see Erection of Multi-Sided Poles.
The data can be sent in any form; see How to Order Poles and Masts.
Selecting a pole by luminaire area and mass
You do not have to look up the permissible luminaire area and mass for a pole of this height in the tables by hand: the pole selection calculator by luminaire area and mass compares your luminaires with the catalogue data and shows which poles fit by height, wind region and mounting scheme.

12 m lighting poles: frequently asked questions
How heavy is a 12 m lighting pole?
It depends on the range: UMO-12 is 159 kg, UKO-12 is 170 kg and DMO-12 is 228.8 kg. These are actual masses from production data.
Is there a 12 m park pole?
No. The park ranges PLO, PMO and PKO stop at 8–10 m. At 12 m you can choose only between the street UMO and UKO and the road DMO.
What if I need more than 12 m?
Floodlight masts. They run from 12 to 40 m and higher, and are used at stadiums, ports and airports and on very wide roads.
How much does a 12 m lighting pole cost?
From UAH 5,100 to 39,000 per unit including VAT, depending on the range. The exact price comes from a calculation for the chosen range and fit-out. Brackets and crossarms are not part of this price; they are priced separately.
What do you need from me to calculate the price?
The range or purpose, the number of poles, the wind region and the fit-out you want. If you do not know something, leave it blank and we will clarify it with you.
Is a 12 m pole one section or several?
One. A shaft up to and including 12 m is made in one piece; sectional shafts are used for taller structures.
What is the total height of a 12 m pole with its bracket?
From the range tables: UMO-12 and UKO-12 with a 1.5 m bracket reach 13 m, and DMO-12 with a 2 m bracket reaches 14 m.
How many 12 m poles do I need per kilometre of road?
At 36–48 m spacing, 21 to 28 poles on one side; for a DMO-12 carrying SIP (spacing up to 40 m), at least 25. This is only an estimate made before the lighting calculation.
