Hot-dip Galvanising Cost: What the Price per Kg and Tonne Depends On
The price of hot-dip galvanising is not just about the mass of the part: its dimensions, the complexity of its shape and the batch size all matter. We explain how the price is built up, give the real price range per kg and tonne, and walk through a worked example.

How the price is built up
- mass — the main factor; the price is charged per kilogram or tonne;
- dimensions — the part must fit in the galvanising bath, and overly long or bulky parts add to the complexity of preparation and handling;
- shape complexity — closed cavities, thin-walled elements and narrow gaps need extra preparation: process holes for the zinc to flow in and out, and special hanging;
- batch size — how the bath is loaded and the minimum batch both affect the unit price.
Price per kg and tonne
Hot-dip galvanising to DSTU EN ISO 1461:2024 costs UAH 20–38 per kg (UAH 20,000–38,000 per tonne) including VAT, depending on the mass, dimensions and complexity of the batch. Prices are indicative, as of September 2026.
Additional services
Surface cleaning before galvanising, packaging of the finished parts, and delivery are agreed separately for the specific order. Send us the list of parts and we will calculate the full cost.
Hot-dip vs cold galvanising: why the price difference is justified
Cold galvanising (zinc-rich paint) is applied by brush, roller or spray — cheaper per unit area, but the layer is thinner and less durable, so the coating needs periodic renewal. Hot-dip galvanising gives a thicker layer metallurgically bonded to the steel: the estimated service life before first maintenance ranges from several decades to hundreds of years, depending on how aggressive the environment is (see Hot-dip Galvanising Service Life). We do not give an exact 25-year total-cost-of-ownership comparison — it depends on the specific operating conditions; we can calculate it for your site if needed. For more on the difference between the methods, see Hot-dip, Electro- or Cold Galvanising: Which to Choose.
A worked example for a batch of poles
For example, a batch of 10 UMO-8 lighting poles, each weighing 109 kg (see Lighting Pole Height and Mass: Table by Range), totals 1,090 kg. At UAH 20–38 per kg, galvanising this batch would cost roughly UAH 21,800 to 41,420. The exact calculation is made once we have the list of parts with their mass.
Lead times and what to send for a calculation
Lead times depend on the production line’s current load and the batch size — we confirm the exact lead time after reviewing the order. Send us the list of parts with dimensions, mass and quantity, a drawing or photo, and the operating conditions. See also hot-dip galvanising.
Same mass, different price: two examples
The price is calculated by mass, but the same mass does not mean the same price per kg. Two examples:
- a tonne of identical posts versus a tonne of small brackets: the second needs more preparation and hanging per unit of mass, so its price per kg may be higher;
- a structure of the same mass but longer than the bath (the bath is 13,000 mm long): it is galvanised in sections, and sometimes in two dips; this complicates the work and may affect the cost, so the method is agreed separately.
What lowers the price and what raises it
The direction in which each factor pushes the price:
| Factor | Lowers the price | Raises the price |
|---|---|---|
| Batch | large and uniform | one-off, a few parts |
| Dimensions | the part fits the bath whole | the part is long or bulky |
| Shape | open profiles, process holes provided | closed cavities, thin walls |
| Surface | clean steel | cleaning needed |
The directions are indicative and depend on the particular part; the final price comes from the calculation. There is no minimum order: on small batches the share of preparation and hanging in the price per kilogram may be higher.
What to check before requesting a calculation
This information lets us calculate the cost faster and more accurately:
- the steel grade (St3, S245, S345, 09G2S) and the wall thickness of each part;
- where the drawing provides holes for zinc to enter and air to escape;
- whether there is paint, grease or weld slag on the surface.
Common mistakes when estimating the cost
What to avoid:
- taking the lower end of the range (UAH 20 per kg) as the price for any batch: where a batch falls within the range depends on its dimensions, shape and size;
- not stating the steel composition: silicon and phosphorus affect the thickness and appearance of the coating, so the grade and composition are best given before the calculation;
- finding a closed cavity only on the finished part: reworking a finished part costs more than changing the drawing.

Hot-dip galvanising cost: frequently asked questions
How much does hot-dip galvanising cost per kg?
UAH 20–38 per kg (UAH 20,000–38,000 per tonne) including VAT, depending on the mass, dimensions and complexity of the batch. Prices are indicative, as of September 2026.
What is included in the galvanising price?
Dipping the part in the molten zinc bath itself. Surface cleaning, packaging and delivery are agreed separately for the specific order.
Why is hot-dip galvanising more expensive than cold galvanising?
Hot-dip galvanising gives a thicker layer, metallurgically bonded to the steel, and lasts decades without maintenance. Cold galvanising (paint) is cheaper per unit area but thinner and needs periodic renewal.
What is the minimum batch for galvanising?
The minimum batch is agreed individually for the bath size and the line’s load — send us the list of parts and we will advise.
What do I need to send for a galvanising price calculation?
A list of parts with dimensions, mass and quantity, a drawing or photo, and the operating conditions (region, proximity to the sea or a road treated with de-icing salts).
How can I reduce the cost of galvanising a batch?
Provide holes on the drawing for the zinc to enter and the air to escape, remove paint and grease from the surface, and combine the parts into one batch where possible. To make the calculation accurate, send the drawing right away and state the steel grade.
Why is a range given instead of a single price?
The price depends on the mass, dimensions, shape complexity and batch size, and these only become known from the list of parts.
