Floodlight Masts with a Mobile Crown (PMK)

On a mast with a mobile crown the floodlights are serviced from the ground: the crown with the equipment is lowered by a winch and raised again. Here is where such masts are used and what makes them convenient.

Floodlight Masts with a Mobile Crown (PMK)

Where masts with a mobile crown are used

PMK-type floodlight masts with a mobile crown are designed to light:

  • roads, highways and road interchanges;
  • car parks, large areas and squares;
  • airports, railway (marshalling) yards and seaports;
  • restricted-access areas;
  • ski slopes and sports fields.

Advantages

What makes PMK-type masts with a mobile crown convenient:

  • no special equipment is needed to service the lighting equipment;
  • easy and convenient to operate;
  • the fixtures are serviced and aimed on the ground, with no work at height;
  • a simple and reliable mechanism for lowering and raising the crown;
  • a modern appearance;
  • easy to erect and adjust;
  • additional structures can be placed on the head of the pole;
  • the inspection hatch is locked with a security bolt.

Foundation

The type and size of the foundation are set by the design according to the type and number of light fittings, the soil and the wind loads. If the customer wishes, POLYGONAL specialists will design and document the foundation.

Coating

The mast is protected against corrosion by hot-dip galvanising to DSTU EN ISO 1461:2024.

Typical sizes

In the typical range, masts with a mobile crown are 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 m high. We choose the height, the number of floodlights and the crown design for your site. For a calculation, fill in the technical assignment form for a floodlight mast.

How the crown lowering and raising system works

The crown is a ring with platforms for floodlights that moves along the mast shaft. It is lowered to the ground by a winch on ropes and, after servicing, raised back and locked in the upper position. Power reaches the floodlights via a moving cable.

This lets you replace and clean floodlights and check the fixings and cable at ground level — no aerial lift, climbers or work at height are needed. The inspection hatch at the base of the mast is locked with a security bolt.

Fixed or mobile crown: how to choose

Choose a mobile crown when servicing at height is expensive or dangerous and the mast needs regular maintenance.

PMK is a crown type, not a height series

PMK is not a separate series of masts by height but the type of crown on our multi-sided PMV floodlight masts: a mobile one, with a winch. The height, the number of floodlights and the wind region are chosen for the site, so state them separately in your enquiry. How these masts differ from the standard PMS and PMZH is explained in Floodlight Masts PMS, PMZH and Our PMV, PMK.

For stadiums and sports grounds the height and layout of the masts are set by the lighting design: the competition classes and layout schemes are in the article Sports Lighting: Competition Classes and Requirements.

What to consider when choosing a PMK mast

  • mast height: the standard range is 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 m;
  • number and weight of floodlights and their layout on the crown;
  • wind region and operating conditions;
  • foundation type and soil characteristics: set by the design;
  • painting requirements (aviation marking for airports) and lightning protection.

Servicing a mast with a mobile crown

The frequency and scope of servicing are defined by the operating manual, which is part of the mast documentation together with the passport and other accompanying documentation. During inspection, check the condition of the ropes, blocks and locking devices of the crown, the power cable, the floodlight fixings and the anti-corrosion coating.

How to order a PMK mast

Fill in the technical specification form for a floodlight mast (see below) or send a site plan, the required height and the number of floodlights. We calculate the design, propose a foundation and quote the price and lead time.

Floodlight masts with a mobile crown PMK: frequently asked questions

How is a mobile crown more convenient than a fixed one?

The crown with the floodlights is lowered to the ground by a winch, so servicing and aiming the fixtures needs no special equipment or work at height.

What heights are PMK masts available in?

The typical range is 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 m. We choose the height, the number of floodlights and the crown design for your specific site.

Where are masts with a mobile crown used?

On roads and interchanges, car parks, at airports, railway stations and seaports, in restricted-access areas, and on ski slopes and sports fields.

Questionnaire: technical assignment form

Fill in the form and email it to us: we will prepare the KM-stage design documentation from it and calculate the price. The PDF is handy to print; the DOCX can be filled in on a computer.
