What’s in the catalogue
The «TP-BKM.20.02» catalogue is a unified design solution for steel multi-sided flanged catenary masts (tram and trolleybus), octagonal in cross-section.
Inside: general notes and scope of application (p. 2–4), drawings of 10 sizes — BKM-7.3 and BKM-9 for five load classes: 8, 12, 15, 20 and 25 kN — with foundation anchor cages (p. 5–14), and an order questionnaire (p. 15).

| БКМ-9-25 | 9 | 25 | 32.5 | ФКМ-520-1200 |
The load is the horizontal design load on the mast at a maximum application height of 7 m. Mark BKM-{H}-{load}: e.g. BKM-7.3-8 is 7.3 m high, rated for an 8 kN load.
Who it’s for
The masts carry the catenary (contact) wire for trams and trolleybuses. The shaft is a regular octagon, fixed to the foundation through a flange.
Suitable for wind regions 1–5, seismic intensity up to 6 points, and air temperatures from −40 to +40 °C. Design service life is 50 years.
How to order
Manufactured to TU U 25.1-39573934-001:2016. The foundation is monolithic reinforced concrete, grade C20/25 or higher; the reinforcement is designed individually for the geotechnical conditions of the site.
To order, state the height and design load in the questionnaire (p. 15 of the catalogue) or in our technical specification form.
Example: choosing a size from the catalogue
Suppose the catenary calculation gives a horizontal operating load on the mast above 12 kN but not more than 15 kN, applied at a height of up to 7 m. The selection goes like this:
- load class: the nearest class not below the required one, 15 kN (the catalogue classes are 8, 12, 15, 20 and 25 kN);
- mast height: 7.3 or 9 m, so the mark is BKM-7.3-15 or BKM-9-15 (sheets 9 and 10);
- design load: 1.3 times the characteristic load, 15 × 1.3 = 19.5 kN;
- anchor cage: FKM-460-1040, anchors on a 460×460 mm square (axis to axis), 1040 mm high, with 8 anchors; the shaft at the base is 355 mm. The other classes are in the table below.
| Class, kN | Drawings, sheets | Shaft at base, mm | Anchor spacing (axis to axis), mm | Cage height, mm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 5–6 | 320 | 410×410 | 800 |
| 12 | 7–8 | 355 | 450×450 | 900 |
| 15 | 9–10 | 355 | 460×460 | 1040 |
| 20 | 11–12 | 400 | 520×520 | 1200 |
| 25 | 13–14 | 400 | 520×520 | 1200 |
Every anchor cage has 8 anchors; the dimensions are the same for masts 7.3 and 9 m high.
What to check when designing and ordering
The questionnaire (sheet 15) has 12 items, among them the height at which the load acts, an inspection hatch, a luminaire bracket and seismicity on the MSK-64 scale. All fields are mandatory; where data is missing, put a dash. Also take into account the following:
- calculation: the mast is designed to DBN V.2.6-198:2014 and the static analysis was run in SCAD Office (sheet 3, cl. 5.1–5.2);
- earthing: to the design; the catalogue (sheet 3, cl. 7.1) requires it to follow the requirements of the Rules for the Arrangement of Electrical Installations (PUE) in the 2017 edition. Under PUE (2026 edition), cl. 2.5.1, chapter 2.5 does not cover tram and trolleybus catenaries, while under cl. 1.1.1 the Rules also apply to special electrical installations unless the documents governing them say otherwise, so the designer takes the final requirements from the current texts; the earthing loops are measured after erection (sheet 3, cl. 7.2);
- erection: per the catalogue, it is carried out by a specialised organisation with suitable equipment and trained personnel, to a works execution project (sheet 4, cl. 8.4–8.5).

Questions about catenary masts
What does a mark like BKM-7.3-12 mean?
BKM-7.3-12 is a flanged multi-sided catenary mast 7.3 m high, rated for a horizontal design load of 12 kN at a maximum application height of 7 m.
What coating do the masts have?
Hot-dip galvanising to DSTU EN ISO 1461:2024, coating thickness 80–120 microns.
Can an inspection hatch and a luminaire bracket be specified in the order?
Yes: the questionnaire (sheet 15) has items for both, the hatch (its size is set by the design project) and the luminaire bracket (height and outreach, m). The catalogue drawings (sheets 5–14) do not show them.
What steel are the shafts and anchor bolts made of?
Per the catalogue (sheet 2, cl. 3.1), the shafts are S245 steel, category 4, the flanges are S345 steel, category 5 (both to DSTU 8539:2015), and the anchor bolts are 09G2S or St3sp4-1GP steel.
What should be checked while the mast is in service?
The steel parts are inspected periodically and damaged coating is restored, condensate drainage from the base unit is checked, and tall vegetation is cleared within 1 m of its outline (sheet 4, cl. 11).
